The Indo-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and Culture is pleased to report a series of significant events that have recently taken place, which have the potential to shape the future of the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Chile.

Chilean Naval Ship "Esmeralda" Docks in Indonesia: For the first time in 30 years, the Chilean training ship "Esmeralda" has docked in the port of Jakarta as part of its 69th training voyage. This visit not only commemorates the 125th anniversary of the visit of the "General Baquedano", the first Latin American warship to visit these shores, but also celebrates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Chile and Indonesia. The visit includes various naval and protocol activities, further strengthening the cooperation between the two nations.

Chilean Grape Market Looks Beyond U.S.: The collapse of the green grape market has prompted Chile to explore other markets beyond the United States. As the Indo-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and Culture, we encourage this diversification of trade partners and look forward to facilitating these new relationships.

Chile Discovers High Cobalt Concentrations in Mining Tailings: As the electric vehicle industry continues to grow, Chile has discovered high concentrations of cobalt, a key mineral in the manufacturing of batteries for electric cars and electronic devices, in its mining tailings. This discovery presents an unprecedented opportunity to access a highly demanded resource without opening new mines, by reusing waste that has been considered environmental liabilities for decades.

Chilean Copper Market Under Pressure: The U.S. President, Donald Trump, has confirmed a new 50% tariff on copper, effective from August 1st. This decision, based on national security considerations, puts pressure on the Chilean copper market. The Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs will maintain contact with the U.S. to understand the full implications of this tariff increase.

Tourist Tragedy in Indonesia: In a tragic event, Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins lost her life after falling into a volcano in Indonesia. The Indo-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and Culture extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and trusts that the Indonesian authorities will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of tourists.

The Indo-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and Culture is pleased to report a series of significant developments on the international stage. These events highlight the strength and resilience of Chile's diplomatic and economic relations.

The Chilean Government has announced the appointment of Pablo Arriarán Ahumada as the new ambassador to the People's Republic of China. Arriarán, a seasoned diplomat with extensive international experience, assumes this critical role at a pivotal time in the relationship between the two nations. His diplomatic career includes ambassadorial roles in Egypt and Ecuador, and second-in-command positions in the embassies of Ecuador and Argentina. He has also had assignments in countries such as Gabon, Kenya, New Zealand, and the United States.

Chile has managed to successfully navigate the trade war instigated by U.S. President Donald Trump. Despite the uncertainty this conflict has caused for the global economy, Chile has shown resilience and even reaped some benefits. However, the future impact of this conflict on the Chilean economy remains to be seen.

In response to potential U.S. tariffs on copper, Chile, through the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco), has submitted a letter to the United States defending its position as a "strategic and reliable partner". The administration of President Gabriel Boric has expressed concern over the possible imposition of tariffs on copper by the Trump administration and is closely monitoring the situation.

The Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco) presented a letter to the U.S. Department of Commerce defending its role as a strategic and reliable partner in the supply of copper, in light of potential tariffs by the U.S. "We sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Commerce defending the strategic and reliable nature of our country's copper supply," said the Chilean ambassador to the U.S., Juan Gabriel Valdés.

In other news, the inaugural arrival and departure of the cruise ship Star Voyager, which underwent a USD 50 million refurbishment, was celebrated in Jakarta, strengthening the regional presence of the iconic Dream Cruises brand.

Finally, Chilean President Gabriel Boric has embarked on a trip to India with the aim of strengthening relations and attracting investments from the world's most populated country.
